Small business ideas and goals for entrepreneurs in 2021

2020 was a rollercoaster of a year for many small businesses, especially if we started a small business idea. Business owners might have been dreaming of their business and finally leaped to begin in 2020, only to be let down. 

With the last month of the year coming to a close, many business owners are still trying to find their footing and develop business ideas for 2021.

There are so many business ideas that can improve your business’ marketing or strategy. You don’t need to drastically redevelop portions of your small business to impact your business’s bottom line. 

With 2021 fastly approaching, there are so many small business ideas that you can still compile for the new year.

These small business ideas can help you leverage your business to a broader audience and build more vital trust with your customers. Here are a few of the ideas that I hope to incorporate into my business throughout 2021 as a female entrepreneur. 

Get in front of the camera

One of the most significant aspects that help you sell in your small business is creating a presence within your company. You might be camera shy or an introverted entrepreneur. Still, research proves that putting a human in front of your business helps. 

I can see how many small businesses want to stay behind the camera when they start their business. It doesn’t matter what type of camera it is either! For video and photography alike, some business owners don’t want to show a face. Still, they can improve their connection with their audience if they put themselves out there a bit more.

If you’re not comfortable in front of the camera, try to start small. Schedule a few times in your Instagram stories and feed to appear. Then maybe schedule a photoshoot with your products and perhaps a few coworkers or animal-helpers once you become more comfortable. 

Over the past year, we haven’t had much interaction with people. It will uplift your customer base to see a face with your small business, rather than a logo.

Create a system or strategy for your small business

It can be challenging to get a small business off the ground. Creating a strategy or system for your targetted audience can help keep you on track. 

You can create the best products in the world for your customers, but they can see your business as haphazard if you don’t have a process in place. Having a system and strategy in place will help you appear more polished for your customers.

Even if you don’t have a system in place for your customers, one will help you run your business smoothly. You can devise a routine that will help make your business somewhat predictable and manageable.

Determine when you will send elements out to your audience and how you will interact with them. Each piece that you assign a place in your business will help your small business run better.

Design a digital presence-Not just on social media!

Social media can not be the only digital presence of your brand and small business. It probably plays one of the most prominent roles in attracting your target audience, but your small business’ digital presence needs to revolve around other means of communication.

If you haven’t set up an email list, I’d recommend setting one up. An email list will help your small business by determining where your most loyal followers are finding your brand.

I’d also recommend making a site map of your website so that you can clear out any redundant or unnecessary web pages on your website. Your site map will also help you determine a clear path for your target audience to take within your website.

There are so many ways to contribute to your business without sharing or making posts for social media. 

Niche down

Suppose you’ve been in your small business for a while. In that case, you might have already niched down your business’ target audience and your business’ purpose. If you’re newer, you might still need to do some soul searching.

First, determine your target audience. To make it easier, envision one person that you select to be perfect for your business. Define their characteristics, like their age and gender, but also their personality.

Next, figure out how you can help this person. This person might need more than one thing, but make your contribution as specific as possible. You might help with various aspects that they need help with, but it’s your job to offer them help with one initially. 

You might see finding a niche as a bad thing. Still, it will help your customers determine how they can trust you and develop a relationship with you.

Create multiple sources of income

As 2020 has shown, small business needs to be flexible and adaptable. It’s not enough to be making an income from one source anymore to maintain an income.

When I suggest finding new income sources from your small business, I don’t mean you need to have multiple companies or alternative focuses. I mainly mean to diversify how you run your business. You don’t need to do this all at once, but it’s good to have a back-burner project as well.

You might start freelancing and then expand from there. Many businesses have gone into consulting, Etsy products, or teaching programs. There are multiple ways you can develop your small business from a one source income; you only need a bit of imagination.

Again, this isn’t an immediate thing. It only might be a percolating project in the back of your mind to start looking for inspiration.
